One Word: I’ve Got My Word! What’s Next?

So many words!

Thank you for your willingness to share them with me. As I read through them, I started making a list. Many I feel could serve me in the future.

  • FAITH
  • SOUL
  • DILIGENCE
  • SERVE
  • CLEAN
  • VULNERABLE
  • OFFERING
  • PATIENCE
  • EXPLORE
  • TODAY
  • BALANCE
  • PEACE
  • SPONTANEOUS

And thank you for sharing the reasoning for your word:

VULNERABLE…I am going to try and turn over my control and be Vulnerable to where God leads me this year

NEW…I am looking at my life as a NEW beginning. I want to become healthier.

TODAY…I am in control of today.

CLEAN…Three highlights: used to emphasize the completeness of a reported action, condition, or experience; having a simple, well-defined, and pleasing shape; and played or done according to the rules.

OFFERING…I’m surrendering the idea that I need to have everything planned out for God to use me, and embracing the idea that I can live every day offering all that I do to Him and that He will use it in ways I can’t even imagine.

FAITH…I have spent the last year worrying about and trying to control some situations [] that affect me. I have no power to control any of it. I need to put faith in those who can make change and trust they are doing their best. And I need a little more faith in God.

I know it’s not easy baring your soul to others, but I truly believe there is power in doing so. Sometimes we just need to be able to say things out loud (or put them in print) and have our thoughts and feelings acknowledged.

So thank you. I feel honored.

So, we have our ONE WORD.

And we have the ‘why’ we chose our ONE WORD (or maybe your word chose you).

What comes next?

There needs to be some kind of accountability in our day to day living, so we don’t conveniently ‘forget’ about our ONE WORD until next year rolls along. (Although I am not at all opposed to choosing a word at any point of the year.)

Our word should be with us each and every day.

We need to be reminded of it each morning.

We need to check in with our word throughout the day.

And we need to reflect upon our word each night.

Our ONE WORD needs to become something we automatically think about throughout the day. It needs to become part of our daily routine.

So…how the heck you’re going to make THAT happen.

Well, I have a few ideas:

  • Host a little get together with others joining you on your ONE WORD journey and create your words artistically. (Or if you are lucky enough to know someone with some mad lettering skills, you could have them make a small sign for you. If you like this idea, I could hook you up with someone.)
  • Put your word on a piece of jewelry. I have used MyIntent to create bracelets for my girls, and was pleased with their product.
  • Write your word on sticky notes and place the sticky notes in strategic locations.
  • Find a song that inspires you to think about your word and then put that song in your playlist.
  • Enlist the help others and have them check in with you.

I am willing to bet you have a lot of other brilliant ideas to share, and I’d love to hear them! (I tend to NOT be an ‘out of the box’ thinker, so I am always excited to hear what others are thinking.)

And me?

I feel grateful people have offered to check in with me.

And then of course, there’s this blog thing. That’ll keep me honest.

And I’m incorporating the following Bible verses into an already established routine.

 Proverbs 16:3 NIV

Commit to the LORD whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.
1 Peter 5:6-7 NIV
So be content with who you are, and don’t put on airs. God’s strong hand is on you; he’ll
promote you at the right time. Live carefree before God; he is most careful with you.

Galatians 6:4-5 (MSG)

4-5 Make a careful exploration of who you are and the work you have been given, and then sink yourself into that. Don’t be impressed with yourself. Don’t compare yourself with others. Each of you must take responsibility for doing the creative best you can with your own life.

  1. Karen,

I like the idea of simply needing to have your ideas and feelings known to others-to be able to express yourself and be heard. And I like the 2nd verse that you shared (1 Peter 5:6-7). I think many of us are striving every day to simply be who we are (or who we are meant to be).

This part is goofy, I admit. I pictured all of those words as solid entities, someone or something that silently walked with you every day. If you know this invisible entity is right next to you maybe that notion would make you more accountable. (I know it’s odd!)

I am looking forward to whatever it is that you share next:)
    Thanks,
    Libby
PS: I want to send you an email. Is that OK and can you share your address? If not, no problem! But if that is OK let me know.

    1. I love out of the box thinkers like you. You say ‘odd’. I say ‘creative’! Love this. Need to throw this out there for others!

      And yes! Email away!

      Have a wonderful day, Libby!

BTW…starting to get serious about the bread making. Coincidentally, I received the book “Flour, Water, Salt, Yeast” from my son’s GF! I am anxious to start reading!
