Hello from the land of ‘all things BBQ’!
Yep, here I am. Little ol’ vegan me, desperately searching for vegan friendly restaurants to provide me with an occasional excuse not to cook.
Not having much luck with that, although there was a cute little restaurant uptown (they don’t say downtown) called Chili Thai where I scored a rather tasty entree (tofu with spicy peanut sauce) and dessert (sticky rice with mango). I
And Reed had a business dinner at a place called Morten’s in a section of Columbus falsely called ‘Old Town’. I loved the ambiance and the farm to table approach. I had a salad (Harvest Apple) sans the cheese, a vegetable risotto (definitely not vegan, so I picked out the veggies) and a sorbet, which was almost too pretty to eat.
In addition to homemade sorbet, they also make their own ice cream.
Reed loves ice cream. Loves it.
Dessert of choice, actually.
He does not, however, love coffee (don’t know why I married the man) or rhubarb.
Guess what the ice cream flavors were?
Yep. Reed also opted for the sorbet, but chose the mixed berry.
(Due to the fact it was a business dinner with people I did not know, I was not brave enough to take a picture until dessert time, but I can assure you, the rest of my meal was very photogenic as well.)
Needless to say, I’m missing my favorites from back home.
Basil’s
Vietnamese Spring Rolls with Tofu and Avocado
Vegan Pho
Veggies in Peanut Sauce with yep, you guessed it, Tofu
Sticky Rice with Mango
Zacatecas
Okay, this is a little embarrassing. The only pictures (and I seem to have quite a few of them) I have are of the House Scratch Margaritas. These will knock your socks off and/or make you forget to take a picture of the rest of your meal.
The veggie fajitas are my all time favorite fajitas…lots of veggies, and not just the typical onions and peppers, but asparagus, broccoli, carrots, mushrooms and zucchini as well, And the corn tortillas? Yum.
The Source Public House
Ah. The Source. So many vegan options, all of which are clearly marked as vegan. I’ve never been disappointed with anything.
Veggie Tacos
Veggie Wrap
Black Bean and Beet Burger
BBQ Sweet Potato Sandwich
And the fries? Crave-able. Pair with the Vegan Horseradish Aoli and your mind will be blown.
Broken Tree Pizza
And then there is the pizza at Broken Tree. Apparently the secret is the crust. According to our favorite server, it’s made with Italian flour. I also happen to love the fact that they locally source their veggies. Plus, our server knows us so well, he just chats with us before verifying we are having the usual. Probably a strong indication we ate there too often.
I hope they can make it without us.
CoYo
Okay…not a restaurant, but boy am I missing this yogurt. I use to empty the shelves at Festival Foods weekly. I’d even make special trips to the store just for yogurt.
Loved it with berries and granola.
Loved it made into smoothies with frozen bananas and strawberries.
Sadly…
the nearest store selling CoYo yogurt is 100 miles away.
At any rate, if anybody has any suggestions in the greater Columbus area, let me know! Fortunately, Atlanta is not too terribly far away.
The picture of Sticky Rice and Mango is devine!!!!! I had a fabulous Thai meal in Atlanta at Annie’s Thai Castle on Roswell. A friend of mine is Vegan and lived in Buckhead in Atlanta. If you want me to contact her for restaurants in Atlanta I will gladly do so.
