Yep. It’s official.

It happened.

The world has now been graced with my presence for over 50 years. (‘Over’ meaning I meant to get this posted on my birthday, but I didn’t.)

You’re very welcome, btw.

So in honor of that milestone birthday, I was thinking about all the possibilities..what words of wisdom could I bestow upon you now that I am…uhm…50.

Truth be told, I am feeling rather wise. (Wisdom, is not the same as intelligence. Two separate entities, imho.)

Life experiences + time to reflect = wisdom

My words of infinite wisdom:

You are a unique.

So am I.

Stop rolling your eyes.

Because what this means is…

there isn’t only one way to go about doing this thing called life. There isn’t only one ‘diet’ to embrace, there isn’t only one way to move your body, there isn’t only one church we should all attend or one way to worship, there isn’t only one teaching methodology to employ, there isn’t one way to ‘do’ marriage, there isn’t one way to parent, there isn’t only one way to do…well…ANYTHING.

There just isn’t.

And the notion that there is, seems to be the crux of our inability to ‘be well’. Often times, we try to emulate the lives of others we perceive as ‘healthy’, but the reality is, we may actually be hindering our quest in the long run.

There is so much information out there. So many viewpoints, so many studies, so much research. And more often than not, so many conflicting views.

Today, coffee will add years to your life. A few months ago, it was linked to early death.

Does intense exercise build muscle or is it linked to protein loss?

Does too little sleep increase your stamina and enhance your creativity or does it promote obesity and heart disease?

I could go on and on and on. Seems there are ‘risks of’ and ‘benefits of’ just about anything and everything.

Who should we be listening to? Who can we trust?

How about you? How about your own body? Do you wake up most mornings ready to go? Are illnesses few and far between? And how about those ‘numbers’…your weight, your cholesterol, your blood pressure?

And how about that little voice inside your head? You know, the positive one…not the smart alecky one. The one that has your best interests in mind? Listen to it.

The truth of the matter is, the key is to lifelong optimal health is unique to you.

So are you willing to take a good, hard, honest look at yourself?

Are you physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually healthy?

Is your diet beneficial to your wellbeing?

Does how you exercise improve your health? (Are you always injured? Are you inactive?)

How well do you sleep?

Can you handle stress in a healthy manner? (Can’t avoid stress. Like it or not, it’s a part of life.)

Do you know how to find peace and calm? (In spirituality or meditation.)

Do you surround yourself with people who make you better?

If not, why not?

Too much time and energy is wasted making excuses or trying to rationalize what we are doing in order to avoid change. Sometimes it’s just easier to lie to yourself rather than make changes.

Far too often, we continue to do the same things over and over again, expecting the results to be different.

There’s a word for that.

According to Albert Einstein, the word is insanity.

So…are you ready to make some changes? Are you willing to find out what works for you?
