I just learned something.
I love it when that happens.
Well, let me tell you. I just learned turmeric is an ingredient in curry. Perhaps you already knew, or maybe you don’t care, but for me, it cleared up my confusion concerning the name of this recipe. For the life of me, I could not figure out why it was called curry because there wasn’t any curry in the recipe.
So I did some research.
And now, I am going to share my knowledge with you. (Unless, of course, you bypass my newfound wisdom and start scrolling through the pictures to get to the recipe. Take heed; you very well could be missing out on the money making opportunity of a lifetime.)
I need you to work with me a little bit here. Imagine finding yourself on Jeopardy, and Alex Trebek has just introduced the category…
Now, because you read this post, the corners of your mouth start to twitch. You struggle to suppress a huge smile. You’ve totally got this. You actually begin to pity your opponents.
The game begins.
You: Alex, I’ll take Turmeric for $100.
Alex: Turmeric is a relative of this plant.
You: What is ginger.
And I’m just going to get this out of the way right now. I know “what is ginger” is technically a question. But I’ve thought about this extensively. I believe when the contestant says it, he (or she) really is making a statement; therefore, no question mark.
Okay. Here is the other thing. I can’t, for the life of me, remember if there is a bell to signify a correct answer or not. And in all honesty, I don’t care. So…we are going to pretend that there is a bell that signifies an answer being correct and the bell goes (ding-ding).
You: Turmeric for $200 please.
Alex: Turmeric, along with cumin and chili powder make up this spice blend.
You: What is curry powder. (ding-ding) I’ll take Turmeric for $300, Alex.
Alex: Turmeric turns everything this color.
You: Yellow. I’m sorry, Alex. What is yellow. (ding-ding). Turmeric for $400.
Alex: This is the main active ingredient in turmeric, having a powerful anti-inflammatory effect.
You: What is curcumin, Alex. (ding-ding) And I’ll finish it up with Turmeric for $500.
Alex: The root of turmeric can be used to make this.
You: What is medicine.
You make it to the winner’s circle and win a million dollars.
And now, you will never need to look at a recipe again, because you will be able to afford a chef that does all of your cooking for you.

Coconut Quinoa Curry
(A slightly modified recipe from Simplyquinoa.com)
3 c. sweet potato chunks
4 c. broccoli florets
1 c. onion, diced
2 cans diced tomatoes
2 cans coconut milk (full fat)
1 can chickpeas (drained and rinsed)
1/4 c. quinoa
1 T. fresh ginger
1 t. turmeric
2 garlic cloves, pressed
2 t. tamari
1 t. miso paste
Combine all ingredients in a crockpot. Stir until combined. Cook on high for 5-6 hours.
